What is a Learning Activation Model (LAM)?

A Learning Activation Model is a framework designed to engage and motivate students by creating optimal conditions for learning. It focuses on activating key elements that enhance the learning experience, encouraging deeper understanding, creativity, engagement and self-determination. The model typically integrates various educational theories and practices to foster an environment where learners are actively involved and motivated.

Does adopting Vivedus mean that we lose our school’s unique identity, values and philosophy?

No. The Vivedus Framework and Platform is not a replacement for a school’s mission statement, values and unique identity. Vivedus is a pedagogical framework for magnifying the work you do at your school, enabling you to take learning beyond. You can tailor the Learner Profile to showcase the type of student you wish to see graduate.

Is Vivedus an LMS?

No, Vivedus is a Learning Activation Model (LAM) that cultivates creative intelligence. The Vivedus Model is supported by a web-based, AI enabled, teaching and learning platform that comprises four modules: the Vivedus Planner, Professional Growth and Progression Tool, Community of Practice and the Learner Profile.

Why is a focus on teaching for creativity so important?

In recent years, many education jurisdictions have recognised that creativity is an increasingly important element of modern education and a requirement in the modern workforce. The importance of creative thinking is acknowledged in Australia by its inclusion in the Australian Curriculum (ACARA, 2022) and has been confirmed by many researchers and international bodies (e.g., OECD 2018, 2022; Brookings Institution 2016, 2017; Griffin et al. 2012; Griffin & Care 2015; Lucas, 2016; Lucas & Spencer, 2017). Its growing significance was recently underlined by the PISA 2022 Creative Thinking Assessment, in which 66 countries participated. Yet the teaching, learning, assessment and reporting of creative thinking are comparatively underdeveloped. Many schools recognise the need to prepare their students for a changing and uncertain future in which adaptive, creative thinking will be a highly valued competency, but they require support in designing and implementing programs to develop this capability.

Can a single teacher adopt Vivedus?

Yes. In 2025 Vivedus will release a single teacher licence. While this won’t change the learning of the students in a school, it will support the professional growth of the licenced teacher, enable them to develop a digital portfolio, give them access to a global community of Vivedus teachers, and help them to engage their students with a living and vibrant education that ignites their creative capacity.

Can a single department or faculty at a school adopt Vivedus?

No. The strength of Vivedus is that it is a whole school approach to learning, giving the whole school community of learners a common language and approach to education. The power is in the consistency, the growth of all teachers, and the assessment practices for students.

Is it creativity at the expense of academic performance?

Vivedus is not an either-or situation, either creativity or academic performance; it is both and. By providing students with learning experiences that go beyond the curriculum you will find that content understanding and knowledge retention is deepened.

Can we still do Project-Based Learning (PBL) STEM or STEAM?

Yes, of course. Vivedus is the bedrock of your school’s practice, enabling great learning to happen, enriching experiences like PBL and entrepreneurial experiences.

How will Vivedus influence our current instructional approach?

The Vivedus model is not in conflict with familiar instructional approaches (like direct or explicit teaching), nor is it in conflict with content specific pedagogy and strategies.  The model builds on and extends those approaches to take the learning beyond.
